Join Hog Island Oyster Co. in welcoming James-Beard Award-winning author and renowned guest shucker, Rowan Jacobsen. A decade ago, Jacobsen wrote a book called A Geography of Oysters, the comprehensive guide to identifying, serving, and savoring oysters. The book struck a chord, and American oyster culture has been on a gravity-defying trajectory ever since. Rowan’s new release: The Essential Oyster: A Salty Appreciation of Taste and Temptation is a geography of Oysters 4.0, the ultimate guide for oyster-lovers everywhere, featuring gorgeous photos by renowned photographer David Malosh, tasting notes and backstories of all the top oysters, as well as recipes from America’s top oyster chefs and a guide to the best oyster bars. Rowan will be shucking and signing copies of his book, which will be available for sale at the event. This evening will be a dine and donate with 10 percentof Hog Island Oyster sales donated to Friends of the Napa River who advocate and work for responsible protection, restoration, development and celebration of the Napa river and its watershed.
