Here are a few options to make your Thanksgiving a little easier…

Holiday Offerings from The Fatted Calf

Heritage turkeys will be flying out the door at The Fatted Calf this month. While turkey is definitely the talk of the town, Fatted Calf also has a host of holiday offerings beyond their big birds. Turkey brine kits make easy work of seasoning. Rich, golden turkey broth is essential for making gravy or braising turkey legs. Foie Gras makes for a decadent start to your Thanksgiving meal. Sage and onion sausage is an excellent addition to stuffing. Bourbon and honey glazed ham is ready to heat, slice and serve. Pork roasts, stuffed quail and duck are delicious and simple turkey alternatives for a smaller gathering. From platters of pâté and salami for your guests to nosh on to tubs of leaf lard for perfectly flaky piecrust, Fatted Calf has your Thanksgiving menu needs covered!

Oysters for Thanksgiving

It’s time to give thanks for family, good health, and oysters! Hog Island Oysters are the perfect addition to your Thanksgiving menu. Order unshucked oysters to-go from the Hog Island Oyster Bar and serve them raw or grilled, or tucked into a classic oyster stuffing. Anyway you shuck it, your Thanksgiving table is bound to be delicious! To pre-order call 707-251-8113 by 3 pm Tuesday 11/21 to pick up Wednesday 11/22 by 3pm.

According to the ship logs from The Mayflower, the Pilgrims chose to land early because they were running out of beer. Fortunately for modern day folk, the situation is not as dire, and good beer abounds. This coming Thanksgiving holiday, don’t forget that beer and food go beautifully together and be sure to stop by the Fieldwork Brewing Company taproom to stock up on fresh, delicious beer to pair with all of your Thanksgiving favorites! Below is our guide to some suggested pairings with traditional dishes.

Begin by warming up your palate with something light and flavorful, such as the Outdoor Hoppy Pilsner. This classic style is turned on its head with a bright and grassy hop aroma, while still leaving your taste buds in peak condition to enjoy the flavors to come. Perfect with appetizers and snacks.

Moving into your first courses, salads, vegetable dishes and the like, a light and flavorful saison, such as Farmhouse Wheat pairs quite well. Notes of white pepper and lemon compliment the bright flavors of Autumn produce. If roasted turkey, sage and pecan stuffing, and pan-dripping rich gravy are your style of main courses, try a medium-bodied Belgian ale. Hannah in the Wild, Brett Biere de Garde is a more malt forward style with hints of dark fruit, cinnamon, and banana chips. It was finished with the wild yeast strain brettanomyces, which exhibits dry, hay-like characteristics, making this a versatile and, of course, food friendly style to please many palates.

To finish the meal, a rich, dark ale is recommended to compliment a wide assortment of pies and desserts. Minoterie, Brett Belgian stout has all of the complex aromas of dark chocolate, charred oak, and raisins, while still being extremely smooth and drinkable.

Stop by the taproom soon, try a flight, and take some beer home in 64 ounce growlers, 32 ounce growlers, or 32 ounce Crowlers. The tap list is constantly changing so be sure to ask your bartenders for recommended pairings.

Let Todd Humphries cook Thanksgiving dinner for you. Pre-order by 5 pm on Friday, November 18 for pick-up on Wednesday, November 23.

Turkey seems to take center stage on Thanksgiving, but while it may be the star, stuffing is definitely one of the co-stars. Cate & Co. combines a variety of their breads in the stuffing starter kit with sage, that wonderful classic autumnal herb. Dried apricots and cranberries are included in the kit for additional depth of flavor and color. Of course it’s Gfree, and so delicious that all guests will applaud it!
